Alpacas The Investment That Loves You Back
About Alpacas
How did we get into the Alpaca breeding business?

A Chance Encounter:
We were in Las Vegas for a mini-vacation and quite by chance, passed by an area where an Alpaca auction was taking place. Curiosity carried us into the room.

Alpacas were led on stage. They were beautiful animals, unlike any we had seen before: elegant, poised, cute but classy. Bids starting at $20,000-$30,000 caught us by surprise. We had no idea they were so valuable.

On the way out, we passed by pens in the parking lot. We approached a group of Alpacas and made eye contact. They walked in unison toward us, then backed up when we got close.

After watching them for a while, we fell in love and decided to explore further.

The Research:
We learned that Alpacas are a tax-deductible, income earning investment. We visited ranches, talked to breeders, and asked a lot of questions including, "Do you have any regrets?" No one did. They were eager to share their knowledge and show us their herds. We were impressed!

Our Decision:
Five months later we took the plunge and bought two bred females. That was in 2005. Now we have a business (El Paca Pastures) and a herd of our own.
